GREG NORMAN CHAMPIONS GOLF ACADEMY

Great times at El Camaleon Mayakoba, the Banyan Tree- LXVI Campeonato Nacional Juvenil

Our full-time students had the privelege of participating in the LXVI Campeonato Nacional Juvenil- Edicion Internacional, which is apart of the OHL Classic, which took place at the beautiful el Camaleon Mayakoba Golf course located at the Banyan Tree Resort. This Playa Del Carmen golf course is the only PGA tour golf course in Mexico making it a huge deal that our students had the opportunity to play on the same course as the PGA players.

The day they arrived, the students were welcomed with a handmade bracelet and a healthy fruit and vegetable drink. After that, they enjoyed a 9-hole round at el Camaleon Mayakoba. Later that day, the Banyan Tree organized a typical Mayan dinner for the students which was a colorful delight, and delicious of course! There were dancers and characters that where dressed in representation of the Mayan culture. They performed dances and told the srudents stories about their culture. They sat at a round table with 18 spots that represented the Mayan Calendar. They proceeded to have a Mayan dinner that was cooked in a 7-feet deep outdoor oven, and were served a variety of Mayan plates. The kids had a great time during the dinner and it was an opportunity for them to unwind and get their minds away from golf  and the upcoming golf  competition.

The kids were impressed with the meals, the Banyan Tree resort, the golf course, the beach, and the blue water. Their villa had a rooftop private pool overlooking the golf course, and they were grateful to have stayed at such a luxurious place such as this. The Banyan Tree treated the kids like royalty and  the students received gifts every day, including a necklace, a handmade turtle, a notebook and other knick knacks.. The kids were provided with bicycles to go around the resort and they were able to explore cenotes and natural trails.

The Golf course was incredible and Gonzalo Pan de Soraluce passed the cut for the 3rd day (final) of the tournament. He finished top 10 and we at GNCGA are super proud of everyone's hard work.

On the last night, Jose invited all of the students to a private barbeque on the beach which included steak, lobster, corn, potatoes, salad, chips and guacamole, and a selection of desserts. This was a great time to relax as they are now preparing for their next Junior Tournament in Augusta, Georgia.
