Yesterday we hosted the very 1st Women’s Golf Day which is an international event featuring 400 locations in the USA and also in over 25 countries. This event was started by Elisa Gaudet whose goal was to “celebrate girls and women playing golf and learning the skills that will last a lifetime.” It was a 4 hour event where half of the time was spent practicing & playing golf and the second half was spent socializing, networking and winning some prizes.

We had 45 attendees sign up for this event who started arriving just before 4pm. Before the lessons started, the lovely ladies got to do a warm up session with our fitness & nutrition instructor, Kelly Shobe. It was very fun to see the ladies in our gym facility excited about spending the evening together and playing golf. Once they were done warming up, they were welcomed by Natalia De Maio, our Sales Manager who explained how the three golf stations would work.  Each station was 30 minutes long. Our first station was the full-game station taught by Scott Shobe, our Director of Golf & Tour player Development and one of GNCGA’s tour players, Yoshio Yamamoto.  They worked on three basic fundamentals with the women: proper ball positioning, posture and grip. The ladies found it to be such a treat!

Our second station was the short game station taught by our Certified Coach, Joe De Maio.  De Maio shared the importance of posture, stance and grip for the short game along with proper fundamentals. He demonstrated how to properly set up the golf ball, and weight set up. It is mostly an arm swing shot and used wedges or short iron clubs.

Our third station was the putting station taught by our Certified Coach Edward Overstreet and our CEO, Jose Fernandez. The ladies had a very fun time practicing their putting. Overstreet and Fernandez worked on basic fundamentals and knowledge with the ladies. This consisted of working on speed control, feel, touch, posture, alignment and grip.

We had Callaway on the spot providing clubs and offering information on club fittings and gear. They also did a raffle of a great prize which was a $50 gift certificate to their store. The feedback was that it was great to be reminded about some things they knew but forget as well as learn new drills and tips. Once the three stations were finished the ladies headed under the tent to get out of the sun a little bit and socialize! The women enjoyed delicious appetizers and desserts provided by Buttercream Cakes and Catering while having some Greg Norman Wine, soft drinks and water. During this time, the women got a chance to meet other lady golf lovers and catch up on golf and life. We raffled out some prizes which included 3- one hour golf lessons as well as some items from our online golf store, www.gncga.com/store.

Overall it was a great event and we can’t thank our sponsors enough: Elegant Occasions, Callaway, Golfsmith, Buttercream Cakes and Catering, AccuChex and Barefoot Resort and Golf.
